THE PRESIDENT OF THE ITALIAN REPUBLIC PRESENT THE GUSTAV MAHLER ACADEMY 2010 WITH AN AWARD.
For this 12th edition, once again the President of the Italian Republic presented the Gustav Mahler Academy with an award. This award comes at the end of an itinerary that began in 2008, the year in which the Head of State formally acknowledged the tenth edition of the courses by sending his message of appreciation and of good luck. In 2009, the President of the Republic awarded a silver plaque for the courses’ 11th edition and finally, in 2010 he awarded the institution with two medals forged at the State mint. In agreement with the Italian Republic’s Presidency, one medal will be donated by the Mahler foundation to a pupil who marked the history of the Academy, and so in 2010 this prize will go to the solo violoncellist Solène Kermarrec. Since her attendance at the Mahler Academy, in 2004 and 2005, the young musician quickly became a star with a brilliant career before her, considering that today she is in the group of violoncellists of the Berliner Philharmoniker, which she joined at the very young age of 23 after winning many prizes in international competitions.
The closing concert of the Gustav Mahler Academy, to be held on 23 October 2009 at the Bolzano Auditorium, is dedicated to Andrea Liponi, with the hope that yet another musical message offered by young musicians of the same age as Andrea may help keep up public attention in the case.
